The House in Momiji Valley

A broadleaf forest

The undulating terrain appears and disappears with the changing seasons.

Living while feeling the vastness of the land.

Across the valley that carries water, a forest of maple, chestnut, and Japanese oak trees stretches out.

At its center stands the “Mother Tree,” an ancient chestnut tree that has stood there since time immemorial.

The trees are connected through a network of mycelium via their underground roots, maintaining harmony throughout the entire forest.

In establishing a living space there, we planned to avoid the trees and adjust the building’s foundation to elevate it,

ensuring that the underground network formed by the roots of the trees on the site remains unbroken.

And so, human life, too, connects to the forest’s network.

We enjoy the blessings of the forest.
