Pale light House
The site is long and narrow from north to south, with a gentle slope toward the back of the north side, and the two-story building was placed on the highest ridge at the very back of the site.
The private rooms on the first floor have semi-outdoor terraces that connect to the sloping garden.
On the second floor, a veranda serves as an intermediate area, extending high from the ground into the trees in an L-shape that surrounds the living room and dining room.
The veranda on the second floor acts as a large, deep frame for viewing the view among the trees from the living room and dining room, and also provides a semi-outdoor space to stand among the trees.
A counter is installed behind the south corner wall so that the view of the forest is not blocked from inside, and it becomes a space that is independent from the inside when outdoors.
Various areas were planned to allow the family to gather and have fun, while also allowing each person to secure their own space,
and to work remotely independently in a natural environment.
We also planned a tea ceremony route that floats three-dimensionally in the forest, so that guests can be invited to hold tea ceremonies in the midst of nature.
When the shoji screens are closed and separated from the interior, the veranda transforms into an aerial garden leading to the tea house, floating in the forest. The area around the counter in the corner becomes a waiting area where people can sit during tea ceremonies.
The Japanese-style room is intended to be used as a tatami room for the family to relax on a regular basis, or as a guest room. When used as a tea house, it is partitioned off with sliding doors, creating a closed, shaded space.
Our aim was to transform the space that is connected to the forest into a place for everyday living connected to nature, or into an extraordinary place for tea ceremonies, by using and selecting different fittings.
